Low Impact Development (LID) garden design manages stormwater at its source — on your lot — rather than sending it straight to the storm sewer. The City of Edmonton encourages LID practices through its stormwater management guidelines, and in many cases LID features are required as part of a development permit. We design rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable landscaping that are functional, beautiful, and code-compliant.
Low Impact Development manages stormwater on the lot rather than sending it straight to the storm sewer. On infill and multi-unit sites, where more of the lot is covered by building and hard surfaces, the City may require LID features as a condition of the development permit.
We design rain gardens, bioswales and permeable landscaping sized to the site's own conditions — slope, soil, drainage direction and impervious area — and integrate them with the site and permit drawings so the landscape and the building are not designed in isolation.
Requirements and review outcomes are set by the City, not by us. What we can do is prepare a coordinated, well-documented package that shows how the site handles its stormwater and identifies where an engineer or other consultant needs to be involved.
